Santa on Tour 2021

Collect up your pennies, finish up your letters, Santa Claus is Coming to Town!

Once again March Lions Club with the help of the Rotary Club of March are working together to take Santa on a tour of the streets of March.

Money raised will be shared among four organisations: Orminston Families, East Anglian Air Ambulance, Fenland Music Centre and FACT Fenland Grub Growers. Alternatively, or indeed as well, we will be collecting unopened tins or packets of food with long best before dates for donation to March Foodbank. If you could please have these donations ready in a bag for volunteers to collect it would be appreciated. As with last year volunteers will not be knocking on doors.

The dates we are going to be out and about March are:

Weds 1st Dec – Cavalry Park from The Avenue End, Worsley Chase, Fleetwood Close, Fairfax Way, Suffolk Way, Bretton Avenue, Hunter’s Chase and Cavalry Drive up to Upwell Rd mini roundabout.

Mon 6th Dec – End of Shaftsbury Avenue, Creek Road, Foxglove Way, The Parks, Riverdown, Creek Road, St John’s Road and St John’s Chase.

Weds 8th Dec – Burrowmoor Road starting near the Police Station, Birchwood Avenue, Brewin Avenue, Cherrywood Avenue, Cherryholt Avenue, Ellingham Avenue, Turnbull Road, Riverbank Close, Gaul Road, and Oxbow Crescent.

We will try to forewarn you if we can’t actually get down your road so that you know the approximate time that we are hoping to be somewhere close to you.

Each night we aim to be starting at about 6 pm and to finish no later than 8 pm.

So why not come out and give Santa a wave.

We hope we will see you somewhere on our routes.

March Lions Peace Poster

Despite the pandemic, the Annual Lions Peace Poster Competition still went ahead this year, with the theme ‘We Are All Connected’. Entries were received from all of March’s Primary Schools, and after careful deliberation, top three posters from each school were presented. This year, the club also presented one poster as an overall winner in the town, created by Madeleine Chandiwana of Westwood Primary School. The quality of entries this year was exceptionally high, and we thank the schools for their support in running this competition.

This worldwide competition has been running since 1988, set up by Lions Clubs International, winners are entered into larger heats, with the overall international winner receiving an award, and $5,000.

Santa on Tour – Wonderful Generosity

We write on behalf of March Lions Club and the Rotary Club of March, and, of course, not forgetting Santa, to express our thanks to the people of March who have once again shown wonderful generosity during our nights with “Santa on Tour”.

We have been amazed at how much money we managed to collect amounting to over £1000 which will be shared between the four causes we were collecting for: Young People March, 20/20 Productions, Christians Against Poverty and MIND.

Your generosity will mean that these organisations will receive over £250 each.

As well as the above cash collections, we also collected food for March Foodbank, the total donated was a magnificent 325kg.

This has all been handed over and will be available to be distributed.
