Good Afternoon from Santa HQ!

Tonight is Night 1 of this year's 6 tours around the streets of March.
Santa and his elves will be covering the Berryfield/Robingoodfellows area including:

Berryfield and Dagless Way, then County Road, Norwalde Street, Robingoodfellows Lane, Acacia Grove, Ash Grove, Maple Grove, Robingoodfellows Lane (past the GER), Regent Avenue, Hereward Street, and Cromwell Road.

We are collecting any spare cash you might have lying around for Young People March and any donations you wish to give to March Foodbank. Please make sure any Foodbank donations have a good best before date and are in a bag.

While Santa on Tour planning and sleigh overhauling has been ongoing, we have still been out supporting local and international causes.

Since its creation in 2022, we have been pleased to support the Warm Space at March Library – keeping them topped up with supplies! With the rising cost of living, this warm space has become crucial to families over the cold winter months.

We have also joined with clubs across the country providing Blankets and Gloves for their Blanket Appeal. Donations from clubs nationwide are being collated and then will be transported to the Centre for Children and Youtb Creativity in Ivankiv, 50 miles northwest of Kyiv and close to the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. The centre supports 560 children, many of which have been displaced by the war in Ukraine. The centre itself is not immune to the effects of the war, with the children having to shelter in the centre’s basement which has open drains, old furniture and no insulation. These blankets will make the world of difference.

Finally, the club returned to YPM to present the this year’s Honours Board recipients Isabelle and Cerys with their awards. The both had also completed their Gold Young Leaders in Service awards and were also presented their certificates.

We are now counting down the last few days before Santa’s tour of the town starts – watch out for the detailed routes and tracking information on this page!!

On behalf of the club, Lion President Ruth, joined by members of the club, took part in yesterday's Remembrance Sunday parade, and laid a wreath at the March Town War Memorial.

The club also provided the event's PA system, as it has done for the last 15 years, ensuring that the proceedings can be heard throughout the town.

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.

President Ruth and Lion Derek were pleased to present 5 young people with their Young Leaders in Service awards today.

These young people have been helping Cambridgeshire Libraries run their Summer Reading Challenge at March Library.

The Young Leaders in Service Award encourages youth (ages 8 to 18) service whilst developing skills. The award recognises 50 or more service hours over a period of up to 12 months. March Lions Club work with March Library, 20TwentyProductions, YPM and Fossils Galore as well as individuals to run this scheme. If you are interested in taking part, please visit lionsclubs.co/Public/new-youth-projects/service-award for more information, or send us a message.

It’s been yet another busy week! On Tuesday evening we had our monthly business meeting, where we were joined by Vice District Governor Lion Ian who presented Lion President Ruth with the District Governor’s pin and patch. Lion Ian has been a member of both March Leo’s Club and March Lions, before moving over to work with Littleport Lions Club – but we are always happy to see him back at one of our meetings!!

We also had the opportunity to see the new fridge supported by the club for the FACT – March Community Fridge. This project helps reduce the amount of fresh food going to waste and tackles food poverty. FACT applied to the club through our grants scheme, which is always open for applications. For more information on the scheme please visit march-lions.org.uk/grants.

We have also been working away on Santa’s sleigh, getting it ready for this winter. The overhaul is almost complete, and we can’t wait for you to see the sleigh this Christmas!! Santa on tour dates and routes are being finalised and we hope to announce them soon!!
